Hi all...signed up after watching the free webinar. Looking through the modules and hearing about the certification after completing the course, is the certificate something that would be recognised in a professional environment? Or would I have to do another course, say in a college, to say I'm legally certified to weld for example?

I live in the UK if that has any relevance

Hi Tim, this is a certificate that is not professionally recognised as such but it is a very comprehensive course that says to your potential employer that you have gone out of your way to seek further education on these topics which should help you out.

Yes, IMO, it's more a certification that you have learned theory and good practice, but I wouldn't trust anything that didn't have a strong practical examination. I say that because I've known a lot of people who could nail theory and written exams, but had the dexterity of a beached walrus* - it applies to all sorts of work, not just welding.

Different countries will have different certification processes, even sub-certificates for some specialist welding processes, and you will need to see where you can do your certification - some technical institutes and guild halls will run night classes, which may be of use to you, others may run multi-week training courses. They are very serious pieces of paper as literally lives and/or millions of dollars may depend on sound welding.

*I did a national "Electrical Reg'" course years ago which was a practical certificate, with the rest of the course students being electrical and/or electronics 1st years - many had considerable difficulty doing a simple plug wiring, or joint' solder - and these were some very smart kids.
