Discussion and questions related to the course Motorsport Fabrication Fundamentals
Hi. Why is my video not playing. it says "player.vimeo.com took too long to respond."
Hi Andi, I will contact our technical department and see if there is any issues, have you got it working yet?
Hi. I have this problem too. I can't get any of the videos to work. I tried last night and again today and it like they don't even try to load.
Scratch that. Its working on my computer just not on my phone for some reason.
Hey team, for things like this you're always best to reach out directly via support@etsfab.com as I can help you much quicker there, but while this thread is here it's a good chance to cover off a few of the basics.
Is Vimeo Working?
If the player stops working the first thing I always do is check www.vimeo.com and see if anything on there is working for me at all. As you might have guessed by the error, they are who we use for hosting.
Just One Device, Or Is 'Judgement Day'?
The second thing I do, which Gus has mentioned, is trying another device. If it is working on there, then you know for sure that there is an issue with whatever device you were using first.
Browser
If this is the case, then you can try a few things. The first is to clear your browser's cache, second is to try another browser. We recommend Chrome, but Firefox also does a good job.
We strongly recommend that you do not use Safari or Internet Explorer as these have known bugs and issues not just for our website, but much of the internet. Think of them as cheap adjustable spanners which in theory seem like a tool you can use with care, but most of the time they just strip nuts and bolts to make your life harder and full of regret haha
Location.
9 times out of 10, the above will solve your issue. If it doesn't, then you have to think about your location. Are you using a work or university internet connection? If so, Vimeo and even other elements of the site might be blocked.
Are you located in Malasia or China? If so, Vimeo is blocked and you need a VPN. More here: https://www.etsfab.com/blog/help-vimeo-is-blocked-in-my-country/
Data Cap
Are you using mobile broadband that has a data cap? Check it, as if you have used your allowance and are on reduced bandwidth it and stop Vimeo from working, while YouTube might still work fine due to being unmetered depending on your network, which makes it something that isn't commonly checked.
Hope that helps anyone who comes across this out. Nothing too technical, but a bit more than 'did you try tuning it on and off'
Don't use IE (Internet Explorer) at all, it is not really supported in any sense of the word and is a major security risk to computer systems. Firefox or Chrome (and this includes Chrome based browser such as Opera and the beta version of Edge) are modern and work well with the new standards.
Also make sure, if you aren't using your own connection, that you are not behind something like PiHole or some other DNS system which drops connections to sites on their blacklist.
