Discussion and questions related to the course Motorsport Fabrication Fundamentals
I have just started watching the videos for this course and have to say I am really impressed with the fact you started with Safety and PPE. I am a mechanic by trade and a teacher by profession, I have had apprentices under my care in workshops and I have taught in Trade Colleges. The first thing I always start with, regardless of the program of my employer, is safety and let apprentices and students know that if they want a long life and fulfilling career they must work in a safe environment and manner. Thank you for a brilliant 1st module, I look forward to watching the rest of them and learning from your experience.
Thank you Michael, as they say "safety first"! Enjoy the rest of the modules and thank you for the feedback.
Indeed, seen some rather stupid actions over the years, best to nip poor work practice in the bud!
On that, one of my old workshop managers used to keep reminding us of "housekeeping" - making sure things are put away properly after use, keeping work areas clean, cleaning up messes as they occur, covering work when it isn't being worked on, etc.
@ Nigel - I have finally finished viewing the course and I am very impressed. You started with safety, mentioned it throughout the course, and finished with it. I am looking forward to your other courses and learning from you and your extensive experience and knowledge.
@ Gord - The concept of "housekeeping" is foreign to many in all branches of the automotive industry and at times we are all guilty of slacking off. My own personal workshop at home is a complete mess right now but I have plans for it which include removing alot of things that were left here by the previous owner and starting off with a clean slate so to speak. I am especially looking forward to building work benches to suit rather than buying them and making do with something that is possibly not quite right for my purpose.
