Perfect timing for this website to start. I'm right in the middle of designing a new suspension kit for my old "Group N" style 2004 Subaru STI. Here in the states we are starting to see R5's start to show up and they are above and beyond what most of us have. Without having to work within the confines of the R5 homologation, my aim is to rebuild my rally car to take advantage of modern suspension geometry and design especially when it comes to longer travel and softer spring rates, while being able to take advantage of our generous 34mm restrictor and 27psi boost limit.

I'm starting off by replicating the current parts I intend to use on SolidWorks, wheels, calipers, etc. along with the body reference points provided by Subaru in their body repair manual. From there I'll be designing subframes, lower A-arms, and uprights to fit it all together with the desired damper. Currently I am looking at the Samsonas Proto/Maxi damper but haven't made the decision yet. Minimal bump steer is the goal along with 300+ mm of travel.

I will also be redoing the intercooler and piping this off season as well and am looking forward to learning to TIG aluminum! Thank you for the resources and I'm sure there will be questions along the way.

Great project, 300mm of travel and no bump steer is going to be a challenge but Solidworks will make the process a lot easier. Keep us updated, thanks for sharing.
